- A severe hailstorm wreaked havoc across Gauteng, damaging infrastructure and causing flooding.
- Several roads were closed on Sunday evening but some have since reopened.
- Motorists are urged to drive cautiously and avoid flooded areas.
Tshwane faced a severe hailstorm, as warned by the SAWS, leading to significant damages in Centurion, Cullinan, Pretoria North and widespread havoc across various other areas. Emergency services are responding to the aftermath and ongoing weather challenges in South Africa.
Motorists have been urged to practice caution when approaching certain roads in Pretoria, following heavy rains and hail that left some infrastructure destroyed.
The heavy rains and hail, which caused flooding on Sunday evening, led to several road closures in the capital city; however, some routes are now open to traffic.
“Please reduce your speed, maintain a safe driving distance from other vehicles and avoid sudden braking to prevent accidents,” the Tshwane Metropolitan Department said on Monday.
Motorists have also been urged to avoid driving through flooded areas, as water depth and current strength can be deceptive and dangerous.
Meanwhile, an intense thunderstorm with hail left flooding and a trail of destruction in several parts of Johannesburg on Sunday evening.
The storm was reported in the north, central, and eastern parts of the province, leaving major roads swamped with water and gardens covered in hail.
