One of the six suspects who escaped from lawful custody in Lydenburg has been re-arrested following a community tip-off.
The suspect was nabbed near a sports ground in Kellisville, Lydenburg, at around 04:00 on Sunday.
Clayton Flank will be charged with escaping from lawful custody and is expected to appear before the Mashishing Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 1 December 2025.
Police spokesperson Mpho Nonyane-Mpe says the search continues for the remaining five suspects. She says the men were initially arrested for various serious crimes, including murder, rape, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and malicious damage to property.
The group managed to escape the prison bars in the early hours of Saturday morning after drilling a hole through a prison wall.
