Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, daughter of the MK Party President, has resigned immediately as a Member of Parliament (MP).
The announcement was made by the party’s leadership during a press conference in Durban.
Her resignation follows a scandal involving 17 South African and Botswanan nationals.
These men were allegedly lured to Russia to train as VIP bodyguards but were subsequently sent to fight for the Russians in the Donbas region of Ukraine.
MK Party National Chairperson Nathi Nhleko read the resignation statement, with former President Jacob Zuma and Ms Zuma-Sambudla present. Nhleko stated:
“Comrade Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla had declared her full cooperation with the ongoing investigations with the relevant authorities. As a consequence of which, comrade Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla has tendered her resignation from the national assembly and all public representative responsibilities with immediate effect.”
The party’s national officials have accepted her resignation.
