Mapaballo Borotho

- Matlala denied any involvement in drug activities despite his friendship with the missing alleged drug dealer, Jerry Boshoga.
- He rejected some WhatsApp messages presented as evidence, claiming investigators tampered with his phone.
- He also described a meeting allegedly arranged by former minister Bheki Cele to address his cancelled SAPS tender.
Alleged Gauteng cartel member Vusimuzi Cat Matlala has wrapped up the first half of his second testimony before the Ad Hoc Committee.
He told members of Parliament that he’s not involved in any cartels or drug businesses; however, he doesn’t mind being friends with drug dealers.
This as Matlala was asked whether he’s aware that his friend, who has been missing for just over a year, Jerry Boshoga, is a drug dealer.
He also told the Committee that he does not provide any protection services for Boshoga.
WhatsApp messages with Brown Mogotsi
Matlala told the Committee that he’s not going to acknowledge some of the WhatsApp messages that are alleged to be between him and Northwest businessman Brown Mogotsi.
This is because he believes that investigators who are investigating his criminal case have tampered with his phone.
“Police who are investigating the criminal allegations levelled against me have manipulated my phone to plant evidence,” he said.
#AdHocCommittee: Matlala has disputed some of the messages presented at the separate Madlanga Commission.
He claims that some of his responses, particularly to Brown Mogotsi, were altered.

Matlala’s meeting with Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi
Matlala further told the Ad Hoc Committee about his apparent meeting with the KwaZulu-Natal Police boss Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi in April this year.
Matlala claims that former Police Minister Bheki Cele set up a meeting with Mkhwanazi in Umhlanga to discuss Matlala’s cancelled SAPS tender.
Matlala also testified that KZN Hawks boss Lesetja Senona, whom he likened to a “big brother,” was also present at the meeting.
The alleged tenderpreneur claims Mkhwanazi was close to the police’s Acting Deputy National Commissioner for Support Services, Lieutenant General Lineo Nkhuoa, and suggested bribery to resolve his tender issues.
He will continue with his testimony after the lunch break at 14h00.
