Brighten up your Gauteng commute and drive under these bubble-blowing billboards [video]

Mazda South Africa is launching bubble-emitting billboards, bringing a playful sensory experience to Gauteng’s busiest roads.

The vehicle brand has taken outdoor advertising to joyful heights with a billboard in Menlyn, Pretoria…that literally blows bubbles over passing cars.

If you missed the launch, don’t worry – more bubble-blowing billboards are on their way to Johannesburg soon.

The installation is part of Mazda’s The Feeling Will Find You campaign, designed to turn an ordinary commute into a feel-good moment.

The billboard is positioned in one of Gauteng’s busiest retail and transport zones. It magically sprays real bubbles into the air that catch the light and drift over passing traffic…

The aim? To evoke a sense of lightness and wonder and, according to Mazda’s communication strategy – to put the focus on emotion and human connection rather than mechanics and conventional car-centric messaging.

“Instead of telling people what Mazda stands for, we wanted them to feel it,” said the head of marketing and communications at Mazda Southern Africa, Deolinda da Costa.

“The billboard is our way of turning an everyday moment into something memorable.”

Bubbles coming to a road near you

And the fun won’t be limited to Pretoria for long. The bubble billboard is scheduled to pop up at several Joburg locations over the next two months.

The bubble action will start with a site on Winnie Mandela Drive in Sandton in December.

A second activation will follow in Mellville/ Franklin Roosevelt Park in January, facing commuters from Northcliff, Cresta, and Linden.

The structure was engineered in partnership with outdoor media company JCDecaux, which handled the technical mechanics behind the bubble-making installation.

With more bubbles set to drift over Gauteng, motorists are in for a light, whimsical commute.

“The sight of bubbles floating across the sky isn’t just playful,” the carmaker added. “It’s a reminder of how driving a Mazda makes you feel; light, free, and wonderfully alive.”
