The Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) invites South African school leavers and students to apply for the RSR Bursary Programme 2026.

The Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) is a national public entity established under the Railway Safety Act, 2024 (Act No. 30 of 2024). Its core mandate is to promote, regulate and enforce railway safety across all railway operators in South Africa, including those from neighbouring countries operating within SA borders.
As part of its commitment to skills development and safety excellence, the RSR is offering bursaries to eligible young South Africans who wish to pursue undergraduate studies at TVET Colleges, Universities of Technology, and Public or Private Universities.
These bursaries cover key fields aligned with the RSR’s operations and South Africa’s skills development priorities.
Fields of Study Covered
The bursary is open to students pursuing qualifications in the following fields:
- Electrical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Information Technology
- Human Resources Management
- Media and Communications
- Law
- Financial Management
- Internal Audit
- Supply Chain Management
- Risk Management
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- South African citizen, aged 15 – 35 years.
- Not receiving any other bursary or sponsorship from another institution.
- Must be available for an interview if shortlisted and willing to sign a Bursary Agreement.
- Must submit proof of admission/registration for the academic year applying for.
- Must be eligible to study the specific qualification at a recognised higher learning institution.
- First-year applicants: Must submit Grade 11 results or Grade 12 mid-term results with a minimum average of 65%.
Required Supporting Documents
Applicants must upload or attach the following:
- Certified copy of admission/registration letter (academic year you are applying for).
- Certified copy of latest official academic record (if already in tertiary institution).
- Certified copy of Grade 11 or Grade 12 mid-term results (if currently in matric).
- Certified copy of South African ID.
- Motivational letter explaining why you deserve the bursary.
- Quotation of tuition fees for the academic year.
Note: All certified documents must be clear and recently certified.
