Man admits causing the death of 22-year old Durham University Law student

Liam Bowes, 37, has admitted to causing the death of Abigail Eggleston. The 22-year-old student “ray of sunshine” died after being hit by a car while crossing the A167 at Neville’s Cross, County Durham.

The October 26 incident was ruled as death by dangerous driving in a devastating case, which saw the promising Durham student killed. Police reported an uninsured Volkswagen hit Eggleston at “high speed”.

The man appeared at Durham Crown Court on Tuesday, 25th November, having admitted numerous criminal charges, to which he now faces a lengthy prison sentence upon sentencing on 2 March next year.

Bowes set fire to the car following the incident, and was arrested by police after being found in a layby near the village of Town Kelloe.
