Cape Town’s maritime community is being urged to avoid parts of False Bay this week, with the South African Navy confirming a series of live-firing exercises scheduled in the area.
The alert, circulated on social media, outlines several days of gunnery activity involving SAS Simonsberg, with warnings extended to all vessels, aircraft, and residents in surrounding neighbourhoods.

According to the Navy’s notice, SAS Simonsberg will conduct close-range firing at Lower North Battery on Friday, 28 November from 08:30 to 16:00.
Additional daily gunnery exercises are planned for Southern False Bay between 25 and 28 November, taking place from 06:00 to 12:00.

Residents along the False Bay coastline have also been urged to take precautions, as the sound of gunfire may disturb pets and sensitive animals.
