A rain system has moved into the central interior of the country, bringing a significant chance of showers across Gauteng.
Forecaster Mpho Rasimphi said the rainfall zone “has moved towards the central part of the country with a 60% chance of showers and thundershowers.”
This system stretches from the central interior into parts of Mpumalanga and Limpopo, pushing cloud cover and cooler temperatures into Gauteng throughout the day and evening.
Cooler temperatures and cloudy conditions are expected in Gauteng
Johannesburg and Pretoria can expect a mix of cloudy and rainy conditions heading into the night. Rasimphi explained that “it is going to be a relatively cool night as temperatures drop across Johannesburg with lows around 16°C.”
Pretoria will remain slightly warmer. Despite the overnight chill, conditions will warm somewhat during the day, with Johannesburg reaching highs of around 24°C and Pretoria climbing to about 26°C.
Showers expected again tomorrow
Furthermore, scattered showers will continue into the next day, with isolated thunderstorms possible in the afternoon.
Rasimphi noted that “rainy conditions for tomorrow are expected to remain isolated, but residents should prepare for cloudy intervals throughout the day.”
Warmer pockets are expected over the northern parts of Gauteng, including Hammanskraal and Ga-Rankuwa, where temperatures may climb toward the high 20s or low 30s. Southern parts of the province, however, will stay cool and breezy under persistent cloud cover.
