Eight-hour water outage will affect parts of Tshwane on Tuesday

The City of Tshwane will interrupt the water supply in parts of Murrayfield on Tuesday, 25 November, as it proceeds with the installation of two new fire hydrants.

Municipal technicians will work at Clifford and Griselda Roads, with the maintenance expected to last eight hours.

Tshwane installation work to run for most of the day

According to the city, the interruption is unavoidable because teams must carry out the installation of double fire hydrants at Clifford and Griselda Roads, a project aimed at strengthening the area’s emergency infrastructure.

The work will begin at 8:00 and continue until 16:00, affecting all households connected to the Murrayfield supply line.

Officials say the upgrade forms part of ongoing efforts to improve firefighting capacity and ensure quicker response times in emergencies.

City issues apology and encourages planning ahead

The municipality urged residents to prepare for the day-long outage and store sufficient water for essential use.

In its notice, the City of Tshwane stated that it “apologises profusely for the inconvenience that may arise,” emphasising that the work is necessary to support long-term service reliability.

While the interruption is planned, the city warned that restoration times may vary depending on how quickly the installation is completed and pressure is stabilised in the network.

Water-saving measures reinforced

With supply expected to halt for most of the day, the city has urged households to adopt responsible consumption habits, both during the outage and afterwards.

Residents are reminded not to water or irrigate gardens with hosepipes or sprinkler systems between 6:00 and 18:00, and to avoid washing vehicles or filling swimming pools.

The city further encouraged residents to continue using grey water, especially for flushing toilets and watering gardens. It also urged communities to report leaks, burst pipes and “all incidents where water is wasted,” adding that installing water-saving devices where possible can help reduce overall consumption.
