A murder investigation is under way in Morutji village, Tzaneen, after a dog digging in a family’s yard led to the discovery of human remains.
Limpopo police have launched a manhunt following the murder of a 42-year-old man.
The incident was reported on Sunday 9 November at about 8 pm, when a family contacted authorities to report a body found on their property.
Officers went to the homestead immediately after receiving the call.
Family makes disturbing discovery of human remains
When officers arrived, a man led them to a human head lying in the yard. Police then found a maize-meal bag buried in a shallow grave and covered with soil.
According to police, the man told officers the head belonged to his son and that the bag contained the rest of his remains.
The family explained that the discovery began when the grandson noticed the dog digging at a specific spot in the yard.
He later saw the dog chewing on a bone and alerted his grandfather. The two dug further and uncovered the human remains.
Victim reported missing; girlfriend untraceable
The victim’s sister had reported him missing earlier, after the man’s girlfriend claimed he had left without saying anything. The couple had reportedly lived together since August.
Police say the girlfriend, Priscilla Mathebula, has since disappeared and her phone remains switched off.
Officers are urging her to come forward to assist the investigation.

Police have asked anyone with information to contact Sergeant Solly Legodi on 082 319 9662, visit their nearest police station, or submit details through the MySAPS app.
