The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) has announced the suspension of its President, Collen Malatji, following a decision by the League’s National Executive Committee (NEC) on 20th November 2025.
According to a statement released by the Secretary General’s office, Malatji’s suspension is precautionary, pending a formal investigation into allegations that he deliberately undermined the organisation.
The charges against the President are centred on two key actions:
- Unilaterally convening a “parallel meeting.”
- Misleading ANCYL structures regarding the constitutional role and function of the president.
A central accusation is that Malatji facilitated the exclusion of both the Secretary General and the Treasurer General from preparations for the upcoming 27th National Congress, allegedly citing a breakdown of trust.
The NEC contends that Malatji’s conduct violates specific clauses of the ANCYL constitution relating to sabotaging activities, creating internal divisions, and impeding the proper functioning of the League.
During the period of suspension, Malatji is prohibited from representing the ANCYL on any public, media, or official platforms.
The NEC has tasked the National Disciplinary Committee with resolving the matter as swiftly as possible.
