Operation Dudula plans to hold a peaceful protest near the Nasrec Expo Centre this weekend, coinciding with the G20 Summit in South Africa.
The group hopes that global leaders attending the summit will help the country address illegal immigration.
Concerns over unemployment, crime, and services
The group says it wants to highlight the impact of illegal immigration on unemployment, crime, and access to services.
Operation Dudula President Zandile Dabula said the protest aims to draw attention without disrupting the summit.
Protest will not disrupt summit proceedings
Dabula said, “The only reason we are going there is to get the attention of the President. We do not want to disrupt any proceedings. Problems arise only when law enforcement works against communities.”
Dabula added that South Africans continue to struggle to find jobs, access quality services, and feel safe due to illegal immigration.
“We want immigration to be part of the discussions so other world leaders can assist South Africa, as it seems the President is struggling to manage the issue,” she said.
