Eskom will implement a 15-hour power outage in parts of Gauteng

Eskom has confirmed that residents in parts of Ga-Rankuwa will experience a scheduled electricity interruption this week as technicians carry out crucial maintenance on the distribution network.

The utility stated that the planned work is necessary to improve infrastructure reliability and ensure a stable supply ahead of the summer period.

Eskom maintenance to begin early morning

According to Eskom, the outage will affect the Madidi area on Thursday, 20 November. The utility stated that the work will begin at 8:30 and continue until 23:30, resulting in a 15-hour interruption.

Eskom highlighted the purpose of the outage, saying, “The interruption in electricity supply is necessary to perform essential maintenance on our distribution power lines.”

The power utility urged residents to plan ahead, as the extended outage will impact households, small businesses, and community facilities that rely on daytime supply.

Safety precautions for residents

Eskom encouraged customers to prioritise safety throughout the power outage. The entity advised households to approach all appliances with caution, emphasising the need to treat them as active even during the blackout.

“In the interest of safety, customers are advised to treat all electrical appliances as live at all times during the power supply outage,” the notice read.

Eskom thanks customers but warns of possible changes

The power utility expressed its appreciation to residents in the affected parts of Ga-Rankuwa for their patience.

“Eskom would like to thank you for your cooperation and apologises for any inconvenience that may be caused by this maintenance,” the utility said.

However, the entity noted that unforeseen circumstances could disrupt the schedule. In its notice, Eskom included a disclaimer stating that the planned work may not proceed as communicated if factors beyond its control arise.
