South Africa boasts a wealth of coastal towns. Many are renowned for their unspoiled vistas, pristine beaches and the sense of privacy they offer. Yzerfontein is one such town that seems to have it all.
Located on the West Coast, approximately 90 kilometres north of Cape Town, this charming harbour town is popular among tourists. It’s also a haven for South Africans looking to escape from the hustle and bustle of the big cities.
Suffice to say, this coastal gem in the Western Cape region has become a property hotspot. What’s more, buyers aren’t afraid to shell out a smorgasbord of money on a piece of real estate there.
YZERFONTEIN PROPERTY SELLERS RAKING IN MILLIONS OF RANDS
According to recent data from Seeff Property Group, the average home price in Yzerfontein is now R4 million. This represents a doubling of prices seen over the last five years, as well as tripling the R1.25 price tag from a decade ago.
As such, this represents a year-on-year increase of 12.9%, per data from Lightstone Property.
As reported by BusinessTech, 31 properties in Yzerfontein have been sold in 2025 thus far. The combined sales total nearly R141 million. Three of these properties cost over R10 million.
In comparison, only 24 properties in the area were sold last year. Of course, they were valued at a little under R106 million, which is still considered an eye-watering amount.
WHY ARE BUYERS DRAWN TO YZERFONTEIN?

Yzerfontein features an abundance of freehold properties. There are very few sectional-title units, i.e., buildings that are divided into sections and common property.
Additionally, much like the seaside towns of Plettenberg Bay, Yzerfontein is noted for its warm climate and easy-going oceanfront lifestyle. It’s rich in stunning beaches that are virtually within walking distance; there, you can enjoy fishing and jet-skiing, among other water activities.
You can also traverse its many hiking and nature trails and indulge in authentic seafood at one of its reputable restaurants.
For recent buyers, 40% of whom fall within the 50-year age group, buying property in Yzerfontein is a good investment. It’s also a chance to savour retirement in solitude.
WOULD YOU LIVE IN THIS COASTAL TOWN?
All in all, Yzerfontein presents a fabulous opportunity for buyers to enjoy the perks of living by the seaside in style.
