About the South Deep Cadet Programme
The South Deep Cadet Programme forms part of Gold Fields’ Social Development Programme and the National Youth Employment Service (YES) initiative.
This structured 12-month programme is designed for unemployed youth with no previous formal work experience, offering a gateway into the world of work and providing hands-on exposure in a mining environment.
Through this programme, cadets gain:
- Real workplace exposure
- Practical training and safety awareness
- Skills development across various departments
- Experience that enhances employability both inside and outside the mining industry

- Departments: Various (Underground and Surface)
Who Should Apply?
Preference will be given to:
- Historically Disadvantaged South African (HDSA) youth aged 18–34
- Youth from the following host communities:
- Bekkersdal
- Zuurberkom
- Thusanang
- Hillshaven
- Westonaria
- Poortjie
- Simunye
- Kalbasfontein
- Jachtfontein
- Westonaria Borwa
Host Community Requirements
You must either:
- Be a matriculated resident of one of the listed communities, or
- Have completed Grade 12 at a school within a host community
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must be:
- Fluent in English (spoken and written)
- Unemployed with no previous formal work experience
- Willing and prepared to work:
- Underground
- On surface
- On rotational shifts and extended hours
- Able to pass all pre-employment checks, including:
- Assessments
- Qualification & security clearances
- Certificate of fitness from Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre
