KwaZulu-Natal will face scattered rainfall and thunderstorm activity as a moist weather system continues spreading from the Free State and Eastern Cape.
Forecaster Mpho Rasimphi says the moisture-laden system is expanding eastward, placing the province firmly in the path of incoming rainfall.
Rainfall extends toward KwaZulu-Natal
The weather service expects widespread showers over the province today.
“Scattered rainfall has moved into the Free State, stretching towards KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape,” Rasimphi said, explaining that a high-pressure system sitting offshore is steering moisture inland.
This movement will cause showers and thundershowers to develop across large parts of KwaZulu-Natal, particularly from Pietermaritzburg northwards.
Thunderstorm concerns continue
Authorities are monitoring severe storm activity in KwaZulu-Natal.
“We’re still expecting severe thunderstorms over the same areas where we have that 60% chance of showers and thundershowers,” Rasimphi noted.
He said heavy downpours, hail and damaging winds remain possible as the system deepens.
Warm but unsettled conditions
Despite the rain, temperatures will remain warm.
“It is quite warm over the province, and conditions stretch into Pietermaritzburg with highs around 25,” Rasimphi explained.
KZN residents should prepare for muggy and overcast conditions during peak rainfall.
