South African actor Matli Mohapeloa took a moment to honour his son in a deeply personal birthday message that warmed the hearts of his followers.
Sharing his words publicly, Mohapeloa expressed immense pride and affection, calling his son “a true gift from God” and reflecting on the young man he is becoming.
“Happy birthday my son,” he wrote. “You are a true gift from God. I’m very proud of the man you’ve become. I love you very much, Motaung oa ha Maloisane.”
Born in the Eastern Cape and raised between Whittlesea and Maseru in Lesotho, Mohapeloa’s journey to the screen started with a love for storytelling that led him to study at AFDA.
He graduated in 2006 and stepped almost immediately into the national spotlight with his breakout role as DJ Ngwazi on Rhythm City. Viewers connected with him, and directors quickly recognised the rare combination of depth and vulnerability he brings to his roles.
Since then, he has built an impressive body of work across When We Were Black, Nomzamo, Zabalaza, Generations: The Legacy and more. But his creativity doesn’t end in front of the camera.
Together with actor Motlatsi Mafatshe, he co-founded Back to Square One Films and released Family & Rugby, a story inspired by his own childhood. It’s a move that shows Mohapeloa’s evolution: not just an actor, but a storyteller at heart.
