FlySafair and cabin crew union reach deal after weeks-long dispute

FlySafair has ended a weeks-long labour dispute after reaching an agreement with the South African Cabin Crew Association.

The deal brought a difficult period of negotiations to a close.

With this agreement in place, FlySafair also secured long-term deals with the unions representing its pilots and cabin crew, which will grant the airline four years of labour stability.

The cabin crew strike centred on salary increases, working conditions, and flight duty schedules, with flight attendants having grown increasingly frustrated over “stagnant pay amid rising living costs” and “mounting workload pressures.”

The airline said the final agreement with SACCA was almost the same as the proposal it had offered the previous Friday.

“The airline also extends its sincere appreciation to the CCMA commissioners who played a pivotal role in facilitating discussions between the parties. Their professionalism, commitment, and tireless efforts throughout this process were instrumental in helping reach a fair and balanced resolution.” FlySafair said in a statement.

“We’re very pleased to have reached an agreement that provides long-term stability and recognises the valuable contribution of our cabin crew,” Kirby Gordon, Chief Marketing Officer at FlySafair, also stated.

“This agreement allows us to move forward with confidence into an important period for both the company and the broader aviation sector.” he added.
