The Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) is giving back to the security sector in a big way. For the 2026 academic year, PSIRA is offering external study bursaries to help registered security officers and their legal children fund their studies at accredited tertiary institutions across South Africa.
If you or your parent works in the private security industry and is registered with PSIRA, this bursary could cover a significant portion of your tuition fees.

The Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) regulates South Africa’s private security sector, ensuring professionalism, compliance and high-quality service delivery. Through its Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programme, PSIRA supports both security officers and their families by providing educational opportunities through this external bursary scheme.
What the PSIRA Bursary Covers
TVET College Learners
- Up to R25,000 per year (VAT inclusive)
- For DHET-accredited TVET certificate courses
University / University of Technology Learners
- Up to R45,000 per year (VAT inclusive)
- For undergraduate diplomas or degrees
Important Notes
- Funding is for full-time studies only in 2026.
- Postgraduate studies are NOT funded.
- Previously funded learners must submit academic results and a statement of outstanding fees.
Who Can Apply?
You qualify if you meet all the following requirements:
1. Private Security Sector Link
- Registered security officer, OR
- Legal child of a registered security officer.
2. Citizenship
- Applicant and parent/guardian must be South African citizens.
3. Age Requirements
- Applicant must be 19–35 years old.
4. Education Requirements
- Completed Matric (Grade 12).
- Accepted or enrolled at a DHET-registered TVET college, university, or university of technology for 2026.
5. Location
- Open to applicants in all provinces.

- ✔️ Certified copy of learner’s ID
- ✔️ Certified copy of parent/guardian’s ID
- ✔️ Abridged birth certificate (showing parentage)
- ✔️ Proof of acceptance or registration for 2026
- ✔️ PSIRA registration number of parent/guardian
- ✔️ Affidavit for legal guardianship (if applicable)
- ✔️ Latest academic results (for tertiary students)
- ✔️ Outstanding fee statement (if previously funded)
