Remuneration: R120 000 per annum (all-inclusive, depending on year of internship)
About the Municipal Finance Management Internship Programme (MFMIP)
The Municipal Finance Management Internship Programme (MFMIP) at Renosterberg Local Municipality is a structured professional training and work-experience programme designed to develop future municipal finance professionals.
The programme:
- Focuses on all aspects of the Municipal Budget and Treasury Office
- Is governed by the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA), Act 56 of 2003
- Follows a logical training sequence that builds on university/TVET learning
- Can lead to a qualification or credits in Municipal Finance Management, in line with the Municipal Minimum Competency Regulations (Gazette 29967 of June 2007)
Interns will sign an internship agreement in addition to their employment contract to ensure full commitment to educational and workplace assignments, and adherence to municipal policies and procedures.
Internship Requirements
To qualify for the MFMIP, applicants must:
- Hold at least a three-year Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma with majors in one or more of the following:
- Accounting
- Economics
- Finance
- Risk Management
- Auditing
- (or closely related financial fields)
- Be between 21 and 35 years old
- Be willing to fully participate in:
- Educational components
- Workplace assignments
- All applicable policies and procedures
Shortlisted candidates will be required to produce original academic qualifications at the interview.

Interns will gain exposure to:
- Municipal budgeting and financial planning
- Treasury functions and cash-flow management
- Financial reporting and MFMA compliance
- Internal controls, risk management and auditing principles
- Implementation of financial management reforms
- Practical application of municipal financial legislation and regulations
