  • Gauteng emergency services are on standby as heavy rainfall and storms are expected across the province.
  • Residents are urged to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.
  • Motorists must exercise caution to prevent accidents and avoid flooded areas.

The Gauteng Provincial Disaster Management Centre and all emergency services have activated systems and contingency plans to save lives and avert disasters across the province.

This follows warnings from the South African Weather Service (SAWS) about heavy rains that threaten life and property.

Predictions indicate that parts of Gauteng may experience heavy downpours and hail, accompanied by severe thunderstorms, strong winds, and possible flooding in vulnerable areas.

Residents are advised to stay indoors where possible, avoid metal objects, and delay travel arrangements for their safety.

Meanwhile, motorists have been urged to exercise extreme caution amid the unfavourable weather conditions across the province to prevent deadly road accidents.

Motorists are urged to apply the following precautionary measures:

      •Reduce speed on slippery roads

      •Maintain a safe following distance

      •Ensure wipers are working properly

•Keep lights on for increased visibility

•Avoid flooded areas and overflowing river bridges

Drivers are further encouraged to plan ahead, consider alternative routes, and drive during the day if possible.
