Gauteng residents should prepare for heavy rain on Sunday due to a cut-off low pressure system, according to the South African Weather Service.
Most parts of the country have not fully enjoyed a warm, sunny spring season, with temperatures since September ranging between 20-28 °C in many regions.
While some areas of South Africa experienced moderate rain in November, this is set to change starting Saturday due to the cut-off low.
In Gauteng, Limpopo, North West, and Mpumalanga, temperatures are expected to drop significantly on Sunday, accompanied by heavy rain throughout the day.
In Pretoria, temperatures will fall to 17 degrees Celsius, with an 80% chance of thundershowers. Johannesburg will also see cooler temperatures, along with thundershowers and thunderstorms predicted for much of the day.
SA Weather Service predict rain in Gauteng this weekend
“The cut-off low is expected to affect the country from Saturday through to Monday (15-17 November 2025). This type of weather system is often associated with widespread rainfall and severe thunderstorms, both of which bring a risk of flooding and other hazards,” the SA Weather Service stated.
Less rain is expected in Gauteng on Monday; however, cold weather conditions will persist, with some regions dropping to 12°C. From Tuesday onwards, many areas will experience warmer conditions, although more rainfall is expected toward the end of next week.
The SA Weather Service urges the public, farmers, and other stakeholders to closely monitor weather updates and take necessary precautions ahead of these expected adverse conditions.
