South African music star Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, widely known by his stage name Shebeshxt, has been arrested in connection with the shooting of a motorist last month in Polokwane.
The incident, which followed a heated altercation at a local petrol station, led to the musician’s apprehension in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The “Lekompo” star was taken into custody at his residence in Bendor on 12 November 2025.
This latest development comes after the initial incident occurred on 19 October 2025, when Shebeshxt allegedly shot the motorist in the stomach.
Immediately after the shooting, Chauke reportedly presented himself to the police but was subsequently released on bail.
The arrest marks a significant turn in the case, particularly for the victim’s family, who have been vocal in their demands for justice. Observers suggest that this re-arrest could potentially see the musician facing a lengthy period of imprisonment.
For Shebeshxt’s career, the timing of his detention is particularly damaging. With the lucrative festive season rapidly approaching, the artist had reportedly secured a fully booked schedule of performances.
As of yet, the South African Police Service has not issued an official statement regarding the arrest of the popular figure.
