Cape Town announces November power outages for maintenance

The City of Cape Town has announced a series of planned electricity outages across several areas, including Sherwood Park, Manenberg, and Lansdowne Industrial. The power outages will occur on selected days in November from 8:30 to 16:00 to facilitate essential maintenance on the electrical infrastructure.

According to the City, the maintenance work aims to ensure a more reliable power supply and prevent unplanned power outages.

“The city advises residents in Sherwood Park, Manenberg and Lansdowne Industrial of electricity supply interruptions for essential infrastructure maintenance, which will be carried out on various days during November from 08:30 to 16:00,” the notice stated.

Affected dates and areas in Cape Town

The planned maintenance will begin on Thursday, 13 November, affecting parts of Kenwood, Mansfield Road, Addison Road, and Lansdowne. This will be followed by power outages on Tuesday, 18 November, impacting Tugela, Sherwood Park, and parts of Manenberg.

Further maintenance will continue on Thursday, 20 November, covering areas near Sherwood Mosque, Wye Road, and King Street. The final two outages are scheduled for Tuesday, 25 November, and Thursday, 27 November, targeting the Lansdowne Industrial areas, including Verso, Dekkers Clothing, Rigel Road, and Blomvlei Road.

The City emphasised that only the specific areas listed will be affected and only on the stated dates.

“Interruptions to supply will only impact the highlighted areas on the maps and only on the relevant date,” it confirmed.

Safety and precautionary measures

Residents are urged to take precautionary steps during the scheduled work. The city advised households and businesses to switch off appliances to prevent damage caused by power surges once electricity is restored.

“The electricity supply could be restored at any time, and customers must please treat all electrical installations as live for the full duration of the planned maintenance work,” the city warned.

Cape Town officials also expressed appreciation for public cooperation, saying, “The City apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks residents for their cooperation and understanding.”

Residents can direct any queries about the maintenance schedule to the City’s Call Centre at 0860 103 089.
