  • The City of Tshwane has announced a temporary water reduction due to the Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Plant operating below capacity.
  • The reduced output is caused by poor raw water quality following heavy rainfall.
  • Affected areas include Bronkhorstspruit, Ekangala, and Zithobeni, with residents urged to use water sparingly.

The City of Tshwane has announced a temporary water reduction in some parts of the city due to the Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Plant currently operating at a reduced production capacity.

Tshwane Spokesperson Lindela Mashigo says the treatment plant is operating at a reduced capacity due to deteriorated raw water quality resulting from high turbidity following the recent heavy rainfall.

He emphasised that full production would resume once the raw water quality improves to acceptable levels for treatment.

“The situation is being closely monitored. At present, the Ekandustria Reservoir is showing a significant decline in levels, while the Zithobeni Reservoir remains stable. Operational teams are continuously monitoring both reservoirs and will adjust valve operations to optimise inflows and ensure sustained supply to the Ekandustria Reservoir.

Should the raw water quality not improve, the following areas in Region 7 may experience reduced water pressure or intermittent supply interruptions,” said Mashigo.

The following areas will be affected:

Bronkhorstspruit Town

Ekandustria

Ekangala

Rethabiseng

Riamarpark

Zithobeni

Thembisile Hani Local Municipality (cross-border supply)

Residents are urged to use water sparingly.
