‘Racist’: Carl Niehaus calls out Gary Player’s post

For the second time this week, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) MP Carl Niehaus has called out Gary Player on his supposed divisive comments about South Africa.

This comes a week after the 90-year-old sports star called on the government to ban transformative legislation, such as Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) and land expropriation.

CARL NIEHAUS LABELS GARY PLAYER ‘RACIST’

Like many South Africans, Carl Niehaus has angrily reacted to a social media post made by Gary Player.

Tagging the celebrated golfer, the EFF MP  accused him of being a “horrible racist man” and “totally tone deaf”.

He shared: “He [Gary] does not even realize the racist undertones of this patronizing message that he posted:

Carl went on to quote what Gary had posted, adding: “He is actually telling the white ‘European’ colonist tourists that the black slaves will serenade them, and they will blissfully enjoy it…. Can it actually get any worse?”.

After criticising Gary Player over his anti-BEE stance, Carl added: “I know I am going to get an avalanche of abuse from all the other tone deaf racist white colonists telling me that I am wrong, and how much they hate me. Bring it on, guys! Every time you do so, you totally expose yourselves”.

WHAT DID GOLFER SAY THIS TIME?

A week after making headlines over his comments criticising BEE, Gary Player found himself doing it all over again.

On his social media platforms, Gary appeared to promote a South African tourist hotspot, a private game reserve located within the Kruger National Park.

The 90-year-old and his partner were special guests of the owners.

“My dream is for all of you to come see this place, deep in the bush, but pure luxury”, he shared.

The following line, however, did not bode well with social media users.

He continued: “When you arrive here, the African staff welcomes you with indigenous songs to set the mood. It’s incredibly special and pure bliss.”

On the X platform, many South African users questioned the meaning of Gary Player’s words, particularly why he chose to describe the staff as “African”.
