The City of Cape Town will temporarily cut power in parts of Van Riebeeckstrand and Duinefontein on Tuesday, 25 November, from 9:00 to 16:00, to perform essential infrastructure repairs. If conditions prevent work on that day, the power outage will be rescheduled for Thursday, 27 November, during the same hours.
City officials said the power outage is necessary to maintain the reliability and safety of the electricity supply network.
“This work is essential to ensure that the city continues to provide a stable and safe electricity supply to residents,” the city said in a statement.
Residents urged to take precautions during the power outage
Residents in the affected areas are advised to treat all electrical installations as live throughout the duration of the power outage. The city cautioned that supply could be restored at any time, and residents should take safety precautions.
“Residents are encouraged to switch off appliances as a precaution and to avoid damage caused by power surges when the power comes back on,” the city said.
The city also reminded residents to consult the area power outage map, available online, to confirm whether their homes will be affected.
Apologies and appreciation for cooperation
The city expressed gratitude to the community for its patience during the repair process.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused while the essential repairs are being carried out and thank residents for their cooperation and understanding,” officials stated.
The city emphasised that the maintenance work forms part of ongoing efforts to upgrade infrastructure and minimise future disruptions. It also reassured residents that only the areas highlighted on the official map will experience power interruptions.
