Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has expressed his thoughts on Asanele Velebayi’s debut for Amakhosi.
The 22-year-old joined Amakhosi in September as a free agent from Cape Town Spurs, together with Luke Baartman. His debut was delayed due to their old club disputing their move.
Kaze, who was assigned as a co-coach for Kaizer Chiefs along with Khalil Ben Youssef, said he was impressed with Velebayi’s debut against Orbit College on Tuesday.
“When you watch you could kill the confidence of a player [putting him in too early], I will say that it’s true that he brings something different, because he is a player that is willing to go 1v1,” Kaze said as per iDiski Times.
“He is player that when you create those situations and you give the ball to him in 1v1 situations – he likes to go forward and take players on, he can cross, he can get inside and shoot. It was a good debut and we’re sure he can do even more.”
Kaizer Chiefs new striker is banging goals
Flavio Silva was heavily criticised during Amakhosi’s pre-season in the Netherlands. The Guinea-Bissau forward failed to score or create chances in the four matches he featured in.
The 29-year-old, however, turned the corner when he netted on his debut for Kaizer Chiefs. He scored the only goal against Golden Arrows to give Amakhosi their fourth win of the season.
Since then, the Portuguese striker has netted three times, and those goals came in crucial moments for the club. With four goals in five league matches, Silva is proving to be one of the club’s best signings in recent years.
Besides Silva, Kaizer Chiefs signed Etiosa Ighodaro and Khanyisa Mayo upfront as they look to sharpen their attack.
