Motaung Jnr sets record straight on new Kaizer Chiefs signing

Kaizer Chiefs fans were left puzzled after coach Cedric Kaze revealed Luke Baartman will be used in their reserve team.

The Amakhosi Diski Challenge team are struggling this season, and Baartman has struggled to break into the first-team.

The youngster joined the Glamour Boys at the beginning of the season from Cape Town Spurs.

Things however haven’t been going his way, with the likes of Etioso Ighodaro, Flavio Silva, Wandile Duba and Khanyisa Mayo all sitting ahead of him in the pecking order.

Kaizer Chiefs boss sets record straight on Baartman

Coach Kaze confirmed that the club are looking at using Baartman in the reserve team.

For Kaze, it made sense as the reserves are struggling, and Baartman needs some playing minutes.

However, club sporting director Kaizer Motaung Junior has since dismissed the idea!

According to the Amakhosi boss, Luke Baartman will be given a chance in the first-team.

“He’s a top talent, he’s in the first team and we have big plans for Luke. He’s an exceptional talent and I think everyone saw him with the World Cup U20 team,” the Kaizer Chiefs boss said as quoted by Citizen.

Motaung further went on to confirm that Baartman will not play Diski Challenge football.

“So he’s with the first team, with us and very excited for the day he gets his chance to show his level, he’s not going to the DDC.”

Competition for places is tough

Baartman will have to likely wait patiently for a chance to shine. That’s because the Kaizer Chiefs attack is currently locked and loaded.

Flavio Silva has four goals to his name this season for while Etioso Ighodaro has one.

Khanyisa Mayo is currently injured however given his quality, it would be impossible for the coaching staff to look past him when he returns to the green grass.

There’s still Tashreeq Morris and Naledi Hlongwane also waiting in the winds for Kaizer Chiefs.
