Regional carrier Airlink has suspended its daily flights between Johannesburg and Maseru.
This was after Moshoeshoe International Airport in Lesotho was found without serviceable fire and rescue equipment.
Airlink halts operations
Airlink said it had to halt operations on the route because international safety regulations forced the suspension.
The airline said that without the necessary fire and rescue equipment, the airport could not meet the minimum safety standards required for commercial air services.
“Normal services will resume as soon as the airport operator has restored the regulated emergency response capability, in line with international civil aviation requirements for airports handling aircraft that are typically used for scheduled air services, ” reads the statement.
The airline urge customers to check with Airlink and their travel agents on the status of flights going forward.
