‘SA shouldn’t be in the Gs!’ Trump rants as Ramaphosa sets G20 equality agenda

United States President Donald Trump has launched a scathing attack on South Africa.

While speaking at an event marking the first anniversary of his election victory, Trump reaffirmed his earlier decision to skip the G20 Summit, which will be hosted in Johannesburg later this month.

He described South Africa as a “communist tyranny,” claiming that Miami, Florida, has been a haven for people fleeing the country for generations.

TRUMP INSISTS HE IS NOT ATTENDING G20

The US president stated that South Africa should not be hosting the annual leaders’ event, which is scheduled to take place from Saturday, 22 November, to Sunday, 23 November.

“I’m not going. We have a G20 meeting in South Africa. South Africa shouldn’t even be in the Gs anymore because what’s happened there is bad. I’m not going, I told him I’m not going, I’m not going to represent our country there, it shouldn’t be there,” said Trump.

Earlier this year, Trump announced that Vice President JD Vance would represent the United States at the G20 event, citing “problems” with South Africa as the reason.

RAMAPHOSA RECEIVES INEQUALITY REPORT

Trump’s remarks come as President Cyril Ramaphosa received a seminal report on global inequality, which is set to be presented for consideration by G20 leaders. According to Ramaphosa, the report examines the causes and drivers of inequality through the experiences of people who face inequality in their daily lives. It also outlines specific steps that can be taken to reduce inequality globally.

“This report, which is a blueprint for greater equality, supports the goal of South Africa’s G20 Presidency to put inequality on the international agenda. It correctly asserts that inequality is a betrayal of people’s dignity, an impediment to inclusive growth, and a threat to democracy itself,” said Ramaphosa.

He added that through the findings of the report, global leaders will have clear and practical actions they can take to reduce inequality, emphasising that it is up to them to demonstrate the necessary will and commitment.

The president concluded that he looks forward to working together with other G20 leaders to make the world a “better, fairer and more equal place.”
