Orlando Pirates could welcome the return of midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula, who is back in full training after spending several months on the sidelines due to injury.
The experienced midfielder has been out of action since May, missing key fixtures in both the Betway Premiership and the Carling Knockout Cup. The 36-year-old has not featured in a single game for the Buccaneers this season.
At times, his absence was felt in the middle of the park, but the signing of Sihle Nduli has balanced things in the middle.
Will Makhaula fit Orlando Pirates system under Ouaddou?
Makhaula’s return comes at a crucial time for coach Adeslam Ouaddou, whose side is preparing for a congested fixture schedule.
The coach has rotated his players in recent weeks and it shouldn’t be a surprise if the veteran midfielder is given a run this month. He was seen training with the team this week, which has indicated his readiness.
Although Orlando Pirates are out of the CAF Champions League, Makhaula could still play a role in the Carling Knockout Cup, where the Buccaneers take on Richards Bay in the semi-finals this weekend.
What does Makhaula bring to the table?
The 35-year-old’s leadership, ball-winning ability, and composure under pressure are expected to provide much-needed stability to the team’s midfield.
Before his injury back in May, he was one of Orlando Pirates reliable players, especially in the middle of the park. It remains to be seen if he will be given a big role to play under Ouaddou.
