Donald Trump has officially confirmed the dramatic scaling back of admissions to South African “refugees” – targeted at “mainly Afrikaners” – for the next fiscal year.
According to the US President, the offer is open to victims of “racial persecution”, having previously condemned the country’s promotion of a “white genocide”.
But does this mean that only white people, particularly farmers, are permitted to submit their applications to resettle abroad?
TRUMP ON REFUGEE ADMISSIONS: ‘PRIMARILY FOR AFRIKANERS’
In an official memorandum, the Trump administration revealed that it had cut the admission of refugees from 125 000, set by former President Joe Biden, to just 7500 for the 2026 fiscal year.
The financial year runs from 1 October to the end of September 2026.
The statement read: “The admissions shall primarily be allocated among Afrikaners from South Africa….and other victims of unjust racial discrimination in their respective homelands”.
According to the memorandum, the notice stated that it was “justified by humanitarian concerns or is otherwise in the national interest.”
In January, Trump suspended the US Refugee Admissions Programme, or USRAP, previously open to immigrants from war-torn countries like Sudan and Afghanistan.
The US President claimed the move would allow US authorities to “prioritise national security and public safety”.
A month later, he signed an executive order, permitting the admission of South Africans, particularly white Afrikaner farmers, under a resettlement programme. According to Trump, this was due to the “racial persecution” and “white genocide” of the minority.
The first group of refugees arrived in the US. According to reports, less than 500 predominantly white South Africans have since taken up the offer.
‘COLOUREDS AND INDIANS TOO’
News that Trump has essentially prioritised Afrikaners has not come as a surprise to many South Africans
However, the stipulations of the refugee resettlement programme are not exclusive to Afrikaners, or white people, for that matter.
As per the criteria, applicants need to be South African and “a member of a racial minority in South Africa”.
Applicants are also required to prove that they are being “persecuted”, based on race, religion, nationality, political opinion, membership of a social group, or a fear of “future harm”.

US intel expert Chris Wyatt doubled down on the claim, stating on his YouTube channel: “The executive order has brought Indians and coloureds to America.
Wyatt added that he had spoken to several non-white South Africans, and non-Afrikaners, who were in the process of having their applications processed
“All things being equal on the scale, I would anticipate that 7500 racial minorities would come over to the United States.
