About the Apprenticeship
The Transnet Boilermaker Apprenticeship Programme 2025 provides aspiring artisans with the opportunity to gain essential technical skills and practical experience in the engineering and manufacturing fields.
This structured training programme aims to equip learners to operate independently and productively as competent Boilermakers, capable of planning, manufacturing, assembling, inspecting, commissioning, and repairing metal components and structures.
Through hands-on training at the Koedoespoort Training Centre, participants will gain the experience and confidence needed to succeed in South Africa’s industrial sector.
Key Responsibilities
Apprentices will be responsible for:
- Planning and preparing work sites, tools, and materials for trade-related operations.
- Using hand, power, and measuring tools to complete assigned tasks accurately.
- Installing, assembling, and inspecting metal components and structures.
- Testing, commissioning, and repairing mechanical systems and assemblies.
- Applying safety, quality, and problem-solving principles in all work activities.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants must hold one of the following qualifications:
- N2 Qualification with subjects including:
- Mathematics
- Engineering Science
- Plating & Structural Drawing
- Metal Worker’s Theory
OR
- N3–N6 Qualification with subjects such as:
- Mathematics
- Engineering Science
- Plating & Structural Drawing
- Engineering Drawing
- Mechanotechnology
OR
- NCV Level 4 Qualification including:
- English
- Mathematics
- Life Orientation
- Vocational subjects (Engineering Processes, Applied Engineering Technology, or Welding)
OR
- Technical Grade 12 with:
- Mathematics
- Physical Science
- Mechanical Technology (Welding/Metal Work)
- Engineering Graphic Design
Additional Requirements
- Applicants must be South African citizens aged 18–35 years.
- Strong communication, teamwork, analytical, and problem-solving skills are essential.
- Preference will be given to candidates from designated groups in line with Transnet’s Employment Equity Plan.
