Motorists around Orlando Stadium should prepare for road closures and diversions on Saturday, 25 October, when Orlando Pirates FC face Saint-Eloi Lupopo in a CAF Champions League match. The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) will deploy officers to manage traffic flow and ensure the safety of all road users.
“Our officers will be on-site to manage congestion and maintain order around the stadium,” said the JMPD.
“We appeal to residents and motorists to cooperate with officials and plan their trips early.”
Closures will begin at 11:00, and motorists are advised to avoid routes near the stadium where heavy pedestrian activity is expected as supporters gather for the afternoon kick-off.

Several major roads will be affected by the traffic plan. The N17, Soweto Highway, Klipspruit Valley Road, Martha Louw Street, and Mooki Street will experience closures or restricted access. Furthermore, specific shutdowns include Mooki Street between Nkom Ya Hlaba and Masopha Streets, and Martha Louw Street between Klipspruit Valley Road and Mooki Street.
Motorists can instead use Ballenden and Masopha Streets, as well as Soweto Highway and Klipspruit Valley Road, as alternative routes. Also, the JMPD has urged road users to familiarise themselves with these detours to reduce congestion.
Parking and safety measures
Additionally, parking for spectators will be available at several designated schools and public areas near the stadium, including Shomane High School, AB Quma Primary School, Lofentse Girls High School, and Orlando High School. VIPs, media representatives, and VOC members will have access to parking inside the stadium premises.
Gates will open at 12:00, and the match will kick off at 15:00.
The department has appealed for patience from residents and motorists, noting that traffic disruptions are temporary and necessary for the safety of everyone attending the match.
