- Six of the eight Milnerton High School pupils accused of assaulting a fellow learner have been granted bail with strict conditions.
- The group is prohibited from entering school premises and will write their exams at an alternate location arranged by the Western Cape Education Department.
- In a separate incident, eight boys were arrested in Gauteng for allegedly stabbing a Grade 9 pupil at Boksburg High School.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed that the six Milnerton High School pupils accused of assaulting a fellow learner will not be allowed to return to school while their case is pending.
The group, whose brutal attack on a younger pupil went viral on social media, was seen beating the victim with belts and a hockey stick.
They appeared before the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, where six of them were granted R20,000 bail each. The remaining two, who are minors, appeared in a juvenile court and were released on warning.
NPA Western Cape spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila told the media that the pupils’ bail conditions prohibit them from entering the school premises.
,“One of the conditions that we were waiting for was that we got a directive from the Department of Education in the Western Cape which states that they will be provided with an alternate place to write their exams. They will study at home and write at the Northern District offices,” Ntabazalila said.
The incident, initially described as bullying, is now being treated as a case of assault. The matter has been postponed to 20 January 2026 to allow the learners to complete their final examinations.
Meanwhile, in Gauteng, another school violence case has shocked the public. A group of boys allegedly jumped the fence at Boksburg High School in Ekurhuleni and repeatedly stabbed a Grade 9 pupil.
“According to information received, approximately eight boys were involved in the attack. They have since been arrested and are currently detained at Boksburg Police Station. The injured learner is receiving medical attention,” confirmed Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona.
