Six men have been arrested in Primrose following a successful operation by the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department’s (EMPD) Bronberg Special Operations that resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of drugs, gunpowder, and an unlicensed firearm.
The operation commenced on Tuesday morning after the EMPD received intelligence regarding alleged drug dealing in the area. Officers swiftly acted, initially apprehending five men. A subsequent search found them in possession of 134 full and three half Mandrax tablets.
Crucially, one of the suspects was also carrying a quantity of gunpowder. While he denied ownership of the explosive substance, police are investigating a possible contravention of the Explosives Act.
The ongoing investigation then led police to a Marlands address, where a sixth suspect was detained after being found with an unlicensed pistol.
All six men were taken into custody at Primrose Police Station. Charges laid against them include possession of suspected narcotics and, for the respective individuals, contravening the Explosives Act and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The EMPD’s Bronberg Special Operations unit stressed their continued commitment to tackling drug-related crime and upholding public safety across Ekurhuleni.
