A chilly and wet start to the week is expected across Gauteng and several other provinces, with the South African Weather Service (SAWS) forecasting a mix of cool to warm conditions and scattered showers and thunderstorms on Monday, 20 October 2025.

The public has been advised to brace for wet and windy weather that could lead to localised flooding and possible road closures.

According to SAWS, severe thunderstorms are expected over parts of the western and central North West, the extreme north-eastern Northern Cape, and the north-western Free State prompting a yellow level two warning.

The storms could bring heavy rain, strong winds, and hail, potentially causing flooding in low-lying areas and damage to vehicles, property, and infrastructure.

A level four yellow alert has been issued for the North West province, where heavier downpours are anticipated.

Authorities have cautioned that the rainfall may lead to flooding in settlements and on roads, possible bridge closures, and damage to farmlands and crops.

In Gauteng, residents can expect a cloudy and cold day with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. While temperatures will remain on the cooler side, the risk of sunburn will be minimal.
