Kaizer Chiefs fans should enjoy this. Itumeleng Khune, has been officially recognised by one of the country’s finest ex-keepers.
Calvin Marlin, who spent 17 years in the Premier Soccer League and earned 15 caps for Bafana Bafana, has placed Khune at the top of his top five goalkeepers from his era.
Khune peaked during a golden generation of Mzansi keepers, a period when competition for the national team and big domestic tournaments was fierce.
KAIZER CHIEFS LEGEND ITUMELENG KHUNE THE BEST OF THE ERA
Marlin admits that while many of his peers could have had numerous international caps, Khune was simply in a class of his own.
Marlin himself, born in Gqeberha 49 years ago, started his career as a junior at Seven Stars before the club merged with Cape Town Spurs to form Ajax Cape Town in 1999.

Marlin went on to enjoy a long PSL career with SuperSport United, Mamelodi Sundowns, and retired at Mpumalanga Black Aces in 2015. Along the way, he lifted the Betway Premiership and won Goalkeeper of the Season while at Sundowns in 2006/07.
