The City of Cape Town has confirmed a nine-hour planned power outage for parts of Bellville on Tuesday, 28 October, as part of essential infrastructure maintenance. The work, initially set for Saturday, 25 October, has been rescheduled to ensure safety and minimise disruption.
In a statement, the city said, “The work will no longer proceed on Saturday, 25 October, as originally communicated.”
Officials added that the maintenance will take place between 7:30 and 16:30, provided all goes according to plan.
The city apologised for any inconvenience caused and reassured residents that the maintenance is critical to improving network reliability and preventing future power outages.
Areas that will experience the power outage in Cape Town
The power outage will affect several suburbs, including Kanonberg, Oude Westhof, Van Riebeeckhof, Welgedacht, and Protea Valley. Residents can access a detailed map of the impacted areas by visiting the City’s online portal at https://bit.ly/4okkvqF.
According to the City, “The interruption to supply will only impact the highlighted areas on the maps and only on the relevant date.”
This means households outside the designated zones will not experience any disruption.
Safety precautions for residents
Residents are urged to take safety measures during the power outage. The city reminded the public that electricity may be restored at any time during the maintenance period.
“Customers must please treat all electrical installations as live for the full duration of the planned maintenance work,” it said.
The city also advised residents to switch off appliances such as heaters, stoves, and televisions to avoid damage from power surges when the supply returns.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank residents for their cooperation and understanding,” officials added.
While the power outage may cause temporary discomfort, the city said the maintenance aims to ensure a more stable and efficient power supply for Bellville residents in the long run.
