The world of South African football is bidding farewell to one of its most respected figures as former Orlando Pirates captain Innocent Maela has officially announced his retirement from the professional game at the age of 32.

The highly-regarded defender, known for his distinguished career spanning over 15 years, confirmed he has decided to hang up his boots after a monumental spell with the Soweto giants.

The news brings to a close an era for a player whose leadership and commitment earned him legend status in Mzansi football.
