  • EFF spokesperson Sinawo Thambo issued a public apology to PA deputy president Kenny Kunene and retracted social media posts following a legal threat.
  • The retracted posts alleged that Kunene had paid bail for a murder suspect and was involved in irregular Rea Vaya bus tender dealings.
  • Thambo complied with the 48-hour demand, deleting the “defamatory” claims to resolve the dispute, which highlights ongoing political tensions between the two parties.

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) spokesperson Sinawo Thambo has issued a public apology to Patriotic Alliance (PA) deputy president Kenny Kunene after a legal threat concerning social media posts.

The row began between 8th and 10th October 2025, when Thambo published a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) alleging that Kunene had paid a R400,000 bail for a suspect in the 2022 murder of DJ Sumbody.

Thambo also claimed Kunene was involved in irregular Rea Vaya bus tender dealings.

Kunene’s legal team immediately countered with a formal demand dated 11th October, giving Thambo a 48-hour ultimatum to retract the statements and publicly apologise, labelling the claims as “defamatory, malicious, and unsubstantiated.”

Thambo complied on 14th October, deleting the controversial posts and issuing a brief apology on X:

“I withdraw posts made on 8 and 10 October 2025 about Mr Kenny Kunene and apologise for any harm caused. Ends.”

The incident shows the ongoing political tensions between the EFF and the PA.
