About the Dispensary Support Learnership
The Dis-Chem Dispensary Support Learnership offers an exciting opportunity for learners who are eager to start a career in the pharmaceutical sector. The main objective is to train learners to successfully complete the Learner Basic Pharmacist Assistant Course, registered under the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
This learnership provides both theoretical knowledge and on-the-job experience, helping learners build a foundation for a long-term career as a Pharmacist Assistant.
Learners will be employed on a fixed-term contract as Dispensary Support Learners until they are registered with SAPC. Once qualified as a Basic Pharmacist Assistant, successful learners may be considered for permanent employment at Dis-Chem.
Responsibilities
During the learnership, learners will:
- Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines and scheduled substances.
- Support the compounding and preparation of non-sterile medicines under supervision.
- Unpack, merchandise, and maintain dispensary stock and OTC shelves.
- Accurately interpret scripts and adhere to SAPC regulations.
- Assist with labelling, packing, and checking medication.
- Manage stock control, including expiry date monitoring and shelf organization.
- Follow up with patients on prescription collection and refill reminders.
- Provide basic health information and patient support.
- Assist with medical scheme authorizations for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication.
- Receive and check stock deliveries in line with company SOPs.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate with:
- Pure Mathematics
- Physical Science or Life Science
- Minimum 50% average in Matric subjects.
Skills and Competencies
- Proficient in English and a second language (read, write, and speak).
- Strong communication, time management, and customer service skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and numerical ability.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Team player with good problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
- Honest, reliable, and professional.
- Basic computer literacy (MS Office).
