KwaZulu-Natal is set for an extremely hot Tuesday, with temperatures soaring above 38°C in Ulundi and other central and northeastern parts of the province.
Weather forecaster Joel Guy warned that the high temperatures could be accompanied by isolated thundershowers later in the day.
Extreme heat across the province
“We are expecting very hot temperatures, especially for the central and northeastern sections. Ulundi could hit the 38° mark this afternoon,” said Guy.
Parts of Mpumalanga and southern Limpopo will also experience similar conditions, with highs in the mid-30s.
Guy said some areas in Limpopo and parts of KZN are under fire danger warnings due to the scorching temperatures. He cautioned residents to avoid open flames or burning debris in these high-risk areas.
Isolated showers in Eastern KZN
While the heat dominates inland, the eastern coastal areas could experience isolated thundershowers later in the afternoon.
“We are likely to see scattered showers across much of the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal as the wet weather moves eastwards,” he explained.
The forecaster noted that the hot conditions are expected to continue through the week, especially in the northwestern and inland parts of the province. Residents have been advised to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours and drink plenty of fluids.
