City Power Johannesburg has planned an 8-hour power outage set to affect eight suburbs.
The power utility explained that the power outage is necessary for maintenance work that needs to be done on their electricity network.
“The interruption is necessary to do maintenance work on our network, which is part of our programme of constantly striving to provide a better service,” said City Power.
SUBURBS AFFECTED BY POWER OUTAGE
These are the suburbs that will be affected by the power outage from Tuesday, 14 October 2025 at 23:00, to Wednesday, 2 October 2025:
- Bryanston
- Bryanston ext.8, 16, 19 and 34
- Bryanston ext. 39, 45, 62, 75 and 88
- Magaliessig ext. 1
- Klevehill ext. 2
- Douglasdale ext. 4
At Swanepoel Switching Station on Friday, 17 October 2025, from 8:00 to 16:00, the power outage will affect these suburbs:
- Discovery
- Florida Park
JOHANNESBURG HIGH COURT FINDS HAWKS RAID INTO CITY POWER PREMISES UNLAWFUL
The Johannesburg High Court found HAWKS raid at City Power premises unlawful.
In September 2025, the Hawks raided City Power’s headquarters in Johannesburg after the power utility was reportedly involved in alleged fraud regarding a R64 million electricity transformer tender.
The transformers were supposed to be delivered in December 2023, but did not arrive.
Following the raid, City Power approached the High Court, arguing that the operation had been conducted unlawfully.
City Power Johannesburg Spokesperson Isaac Mangena welcomed the court’s ruling.
“We really welcome the Joburg High Court’s decision. In these proceedings, we argued and exposed the fundamental defects in the Hawks application, including the fact that the affidavit that accompanied the search warrant was never properly commissioned with two Hawks officers,” Mangena said.
He further stated that the affidavit did not have an official stamp.
“The affidavit accompanying the search warrant was never properly commissioned, with two Hawks officers themselves writing it and even commissioning it themselves,” he said.
