Daredevil Run: Let’s Speedo up for cancer awareness

Gentlemen, it’s that time of the year again – the annual Hollard Daredevil Run is back!

Each year, thousands of men from different walks of life will take to the streets of South Africa, running while wearing nothing but purple-coloured Speedos and takkies.

By doing so, they are helping to raise awareness around cancer, specifically the types that primarily affect men.

THE DAREDEVIL IS IN THE DETAILS

The event starts at 13:00 on Friday, 31 October 2025. Participants will gather at Zoo Lake in Johannesburg.

You can sprint solo or buddy up with your pals, family or colleagues as you conquer the five-kilometre run.

Although the main event will be held in Johannesburg, gents all over the country can register to run on their own routes, whether it’s on their own or in groups.

HOW TO REGISTER FOR THE DAREDEVIL RUN

To take part in the Daredevil Run, you can register online at www.ticketpro.co.za. Tickets cost R180 each.

Afterwards, you will receive a Hollard Daredevil registration pack via courier, which includes a complimentary purple Speedo.

Don’t be afraid to rock the Speedo – it’s a ballsy move to run in one, let alone swim in it, so you can pat yourself on the back for donning it. Plus, it’s a great way to bring attention to a serious topic: cancer.

DAREDEVIL RUN: MAKING A DIFFERENCE

According to South Africa’s National Cancer Registry, one in 15 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer. As for testicular cancer, it is the most common cancer in young men aged 15 to 35. It affects approximately one in every 2 000 males.

All proceeds from the Daredevil Run will go towards funding prostate and testicular cancer screening for men from underserved South African communities, as well as promoting public awareness around these diseases.

Last year’s run saw R780 000 being raised, with Hollard topping up the amount to R1 million. The proceeds were donated to both the Cancer Association of South Africa and the Prostate Cancer Foundation of South Africa.

So, if you’re ready to make a difference, sign up today, suit up in your purple Speedo and help run cancer out of town with your fellow South Africans.
