  • More than 192,000 learners are registered to sit for the 2025 National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams in Gauteng.
  • Education MEC Matome Chiloane says all 1,040 exam centres have been audited and are fully compliant.
  • Learners have been supported through SSIP programmes, live lessons, and study camps, with strict security measures in place to prevent paper leaks.

At least 192,000 candidates have registered to write the 2025 National Senior Certificate (NSC) final examinations in Gauteng.

This was confirmed by Education MEC Matome Chiloane, who briefed the media on the department’s readiness for the exams at Parktown Girls’ High School in Johannesburg on Saturday.

The matric examinations will officially begin on October 21 and conclude on November 27.

Chiloane said a total of 1,040 centres have been registered to conduct the exams, and each one has been audited and declared compliant. He added that all invigilators and monitors have been trained and appointed to ensure a smooth examination process.

“Candidates have been assisted to prepare for the 2025 NSC Examination through live lesson broadcasts, the Secondary School Improvement Programme (SSIP), and High Flyer interventions throughout the academic year,” said Chiloane.

He explained that matric learners were also hosted at SSIP residential camps during school holidays, where they received intensive subject support. Many schools continued to run their own improvement programmes, which contributed significantly to learners’ preparedness.

Chiloane assured that support will continue throughout the examination period to help candidates perform at their best and maintain Gauteng’s commendable pass rate.

Furthermore, all candidates will be required to sign a pledge before the exams commence, confirming their commitment to uphold the NSC Examination Code of Conduct and avoid misconduct such as cheating or using leaked papers.

“High-level security mechanisms are in place and closely monitored to prevent any question paper leakages and irregularities. Service providers have been appointed to strengthen security in all districts,” Chiloane said.

Chiloane expressed confidence that the class of 2025 is ready to excel and continue the province’s tradition of strong academic performance.
