Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) invites South African unemployed graduates (currently registered MA Counselling Psychology students) to apply for the Counselling Psychology Internship Programme 2026.

About the Internship

The Directorate of Student Development and Support (SDS) has 4 x Counselling Psychology internship vacancies. Interns will provide student counselling services, support psycho-educational initiatives, and gain supervised experience in line with HPCSA requirements. Shortlisted candidates may be required to present and/or undergo competency testing.

Minimum Requirements (Qualification)

  • Currently registered as an MA (Counselling Psychology) student at a recognised university.

  • Work effectively individually and in groups.
  • Time and stress management; ability to prioritise and work independently.
  • Strong communication, counselling, mentoring and guidance skills.
  • Teamwork, initiative, creativity and innovation.
  • Effective presentation/lecturing/facilitation skills.
  • Adherence to a professional code of ethics and confidentiality.

Critical Performance Areas

  • Provide professional counselling services to registered TUT students.
  • Support students’ academic and personal development.
  • Participate in psycho-educative programmes/presentations/training.
  • Offer individual and group counselling to children at a local children’s home.
  • Meet administrative requirements within SDS.
  • Contribute to effective team functioning.
