HUNDREDS of people are at risk of losing their job after a popular digital retailer has launched a consultation period.
The clothing and footwear brand has entered a consultation in mid-September.
N Brown, which owns JD Williams, Simply Be, and Jacamo, has started a 45-day consultation period, putting 270 roles at risk.
All of the company’s departments could be affected, as reported by Drapers.
An estimated 200 employees at the head office and 70 warehouse workers could be made redundant.
A spokesperson for N Brown Group told Drapers: “In a challenging retail environment, we are taking steps to accelerate the delivery of our strategic transformation and our new financial services offering, building a stronger, more sustainable future for our business.
“This process does require organisational change, which has unfortunately resulted in a number of roles being placed at risk of redundancy.
“We appreciate that this is a very worrying time for those impacted, and we continue to support all of our colleagues through this process.”
The consultation period is expected to end in early November.
Last year, the fashion brand had to cut 105 jobs across buying, merchandising, trading, logistics, finance, data and creative.
N Brown is headquartered in Manchester, and employs over 1,400 people across the UK.
The 160-year firm was acquired by Joshua Alliance for £191million on February 12.
After the takeover deal, N Brown ended its four-year stint on the London Stock Exchange’s junior Alternative Investment Market (AIM) as it was not benefiting from being listed.
According to Alliance, the firm couldn’t afford to bear the costs of its listing, given its shareholder structure and extremely low trading liquidity.
